There’s a Train Wreck, Where is NTSB!? October 28, 2008

I have one question.  What the hell is going on with the Republicans and their party?!  Even though I’m a progressive (which means I have a conscious) I have admired the way the Republicans stick together no matter how bad the policies they were trying to push.  These days it is like watching a train wreck!  It started with the Washington “cocktail” conservative pundits who started saying crazy (true) stuff about Ms. Palin and how she wasn’t qualified to be VP let alone P!  Then there was Colin Powell’s endoresment of Obama.  After he jumped ship the rest of the rats started leaping.  The Presidential election is a week away and there have been some snipes internal to the McCain campaign between staffers and Gov. Palin.  Apparently they think she is a Diva.  Honeys, I’ve known divas and let me tell you, she’s no diva!  There is also talk of the GOP pulling support back from the campaign to shore up congressional candidates.

And if that were not bad enough Uncle Ted was just convicted in Federal court for lying about receiving gifts from Veco the oil services company.  Say it ain’t so Uncle Ted?!  With all this turmoil and infighting in the party there is nothing less than a fight for the soul.. Sory, laughing right now… of the Republican party if McCain doesn’t win this election.  With all the turmoil, mis-steps, fumbles and bumbles you would think they had mistakenly stolen the Democratic playbook on how not to win an election!  Hold on, did I just hear another train??

Gang, it is finally over.  No, not the election, the debates.  Last night’s debate was like watching Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em robots!  For those of you born after 1975 look it up!  They both went there.  It was great!  McCain came out swinging with Bill Ayers and Obama countered with McCain’s racist supporters who want to kill him.  McCain seemed on his game last night which meant he was finally lucid for a debate!  He was zeroing in on every little thing Obama said and brought up that Joe Plumber guy about a thousand times.  What the hell is up with this Joe Plumber guy (who is actually a real person!)?  Fortunately Obama was able to deflect and counter each accusation.

Yes, McCain did well but I don’t think he did well enough to change the trajectory of this election.  I predict that McCain will get a few percentage point bump post debate but it will not be enough to clear Obama’s leading 10+ point chasm.  Everyone is pretty set with who they will vote for and McCain needed a solid game changer.  He didn’t deliver.  Even if he got a majority of those idiots who are still undecided (who the hell are these people?  Hermits and recluses??!) it would not be enough to best Obama.  The only thing that can change the game now is if it came out that Obama has an iligitimate white baby.  I’m sure the Republicans have already snatched some of Obama’s DNA and the baby will be born/hatched sometime this month for the famous “October Surprise”!

We are in the home stretch of this crazy election so the last thing you want is to go to the polls on election day and discovery you can’t vote!!  Here is a site that should point you to your state board of elections to let you know if you are registered to vote.  You should also take note that it is not too late in many states to register.  Even though registration officially ended in Illinois on 10/7/08 we have a grace period until 10/21/08 so don’t be discouraged.

Also, make sure to pass this information on to friends who are in swing states since those are the true battle grounds for this election.

Tonight will mark the final debate of this eon long Presidential election. Thank the gods! I have watched more debates than most but I must say, these last debates between McCain and Obama have been super snoozers! In the last debate, which was in a town hall forum, neither candidate really answered the question directly from the audience member. They both took these circuitous routes around town, down to the valley and through the woods before they actually got to Grandma’s house. That is if the big bad wolf of spin didn’t get in the way. Mostly, all I heard were their canned talking points which are older than McCain’s Posture Pedics! But how much new material can anyone come up with for two solid years of campaigning?!

Even though I am a total Obama head, I do realize that this is probably the last chance McCain will get to change the direction of the campaign. He is down by an average of 8-10% in the polls and I suspect he will come out swinging. Obama has practically goaded him to bring up the whole Bill Ayers thing. If that happens it will truly be Christmas for me. Because nothing would put a nail in McCain’s campaign faster! So I have a simple plea. Sen. McCain, please, please, please bring up the Weather Underground, Bill Ayers and his connection with Barack Obama. Nothing would bring me greater joy than to see Obama slam that shit right back in your face! You are cornered and you have no other choice than to attack. That is the (bad) advice that your Rovian advisers have given you. And we all know how well that has worked so far!! McCain is a salty warrior. I expect he is hard wired for the fight. As they would say back in the day, “Gladiators, we salute you!!”

Speaking to my previous post I think this video says it all about McCain’s recent campaign of division and fear.

Though I have not liked McCain’s policies for the past few years I never thought he was a bad person.  He’s just been hanging around bad people.  I actually used to admire the man in a way from my left looking goggles.  But as we all know his campaign has recently turned to the gutter Rovian politics that he so abhorred back in 2000.  It is almost tragic in a way to watch a man in this last desperate attempt to become President in the golden years of his life.  But he was the one who let out this racist genie who’s only wish is to see the destruction of Sen. Obama.  Once that genie is out of the bottle it is almost impossible to put him back in.

Below is a piece from Friday’s Countdown which sheds light on the state of McCain, his campaign and those who follow him.

Wow, I think I’m done.  I’ve seen plenty of debates but the most boring have to be the ones with Obama and McCain.  I was falling asleep last night watching that thing!  I guess I’ve read so much about each candidate and their respective policies that nothing they say is new.  These debates are nothing but a forum for them to give their pre-programmed talking points.  So for me the debate was a draw.  The only thing left to vote on is style.  Obama has a herky-jerkey way of speaking that breaks up sentences in the weirdest places.  Very annoying.  McCain walks around in a herky-jerkey way.  He totally reminds me of Hank Hills dad on King of The Hill.  And his arms are definitely too short to box with God!  Let’s break down the obvious:

Obama is black, McCain is white: advantage McCain

Obama is tall, McCain is short: advantage Obama

Obama is young, McCain is ancient: advantage Obama

McCain is a veteran, Obama isn’t: advantage McCain

Obama is smart, McCain is stupid: advantage Obama

Obama’s VP is Biden and McCain’s VP is Palin: advantage Obama (Palin is a crazy right wing religious freak)

Finally, the economy is in the toilet under a Republican administration and people want to tar and feather someone so they will take it out on McCain: advantage +++ Obama!  The clear winner is Obama.

This Summer I hung up the keys to my car and put my bus pass in the back of my wallet.  I started out with a simple goal which was to ride my bike to work in an effort to get in shape.  Though I didn’t gain any additional weight, I didn’t lose any either.  :(   But shortly after I started riding I thought it would be a good idea to track my commuting pattern with a calendar.  Below are the vital statistics I from this Summer’s endeavors.

  • Tracked dates from May 5th thru September 30th.
  • Bicycled to work 69 times
  • Round trip mileage 19
  • Total miles to and from work 1311
  • Took Public Transportation to work 18 times
  • Drove to work 6 times
  • Saved $276 by riding my bike to work this Summer instead of taking public transportation

Though I may not have lost 20 pounds, I did keep some green in my pocket while being very green!  I still plan to ride to work when the weather is good but for the most part I will probably be taking the bus more now that it is getting colder.
