I’ve been working so much overtime and had so little time to write but it’s Friday night, I’ve had a couple glasses of wine and I don’t have anything better to do! So Barack’s pastor said some highly charged stuff at a couple of church sermons. And?! I fail to see what the big deal is. Though I spent most of my formative years in the Lutheran church I have spent more than my fair share of time in Black Baptist churches. One of the main differences I’ve noticed between the two is that in Lutheran or Catholic (OK, let’s just say white) churches is that the pastor has a well prepared sermon before hand. He/She has probably practiced it before Sunday service and you know what points he/she is trying to make. You can pretty much set your watch to the length of the service! Not so much in a Baptist church. It’s like getting on a Chicago CTA bus that you didn’t know was being detoured and to make it worse, the driver isn’t sure what the route is so they start turning every which way to try and get to the end of their route! I guess what I’m trying to say is that you are guaranteed to hear some crazy ass shit come out of the typical Baptist preachers mouth because he has NO idea where the hell he is going!!
I’m almost positive the reason I can raise my right eyebrow so high is from hearing crazy ass shit in Baptist churches. I’ve heard pastors go off on the congregation because they didn’t handle his anniversary the way he wanted, I’ve been in church when the pastor locked the door and said we need to take another collection because they didn’t get enough the first two collections! I’ve heard them go off on gay folks which makes no damn sense because we all know the choir director is the biggest queen in the church. I could go on but you get the idea. Barack’s pastor said some highly charged stuff but it is nothing worse than what Pat Robertson and crew have said and continue to say. I actually think what they say is worse. I think Mr. Obama said it best in his speech. Dr. Wright is like family and family members say crazy stuff but you don’t get rid of them. Wow, talk about hitting home! Hey Dad, are you reading this???!!!!

The big deal isn’t so much that he is affiliated with the church. I don’t think Barack personally buys into this stuff anyway. I understand that people get riled up in a real church service but here is my problem. I as a white male feel terrible about what happened to black people even as recently as 40 years ago. It was wrong and a true injustice, there is no way around this. My problem is however that philosophies like this do not allow our nation to heal. My family was a southern family and yes my gradnparents are what I would consider racist. I however am not and when I am walking down the street at night, I am not afraid to walk by a black guy anymore than I am a white guy. Either one is capable of doing me harm if they intended to. We have to heal the wounds of the past and move forward. I don’t care what color your skin is, if you have drive and determination, you can rise above your circumstance, whatever it may be and succeed. We are equal now and there are as many successful blacks as there are whites when you look at it by percentages. The hood is the way that it is because people have bought into the lie that the government will solve your problems. The government doesn’t give a shit. They never have and they never will, regardless of who is president. The only people who can accomplish anything are people who choose to help themselves. Pastor Wright is successful, Barrack is successful, JC Watts is successful, Johnny Cochrin is successful, Clairence Thomas is successful. These are all black men who grew up in more oppresive times than we live in now and they chose to rise above it, get an education, and say to hell with all of the people who say or think that I can’t because I know who God created me to be. If Jesus is black, I will fall on my face when I see Him the same as I would if He were white. I don’t know what color Jesus is and I don’t think God sees color or cares for that matter. Racism is wrong in either form. The message of Jesus is to love even your enemies. True love doesn’t regret the past. It moves on in triumph because evil will not stand in the end. Evil will fall in whatever form it takes. Racism in any form is evil. Sorry for the long comment man. This issue gets me riled up.
