Walking A Little Prouder January 4, 2008

Yes, it has been a while but after last night’s victory by Barack Obama I had to say something. As you all know, I have been an Obama man from day one. I cried the day Bush won the 2004 election and was elated when I found out Obama took the Illinois Senate seat. It was my silver lining in a very dark cloud. And now the Iowa caucuses. What an amazing turn of events. Over twice the number of projected people came out to caucus on a crappy ass night. I am very happy that Barack took Iowa (with a 9% lead over Edwards!) but what I am most happy about is the actual turnout and what that means. I think it says that people are finally waking up out of their 7 year cicada like sleep and realizing the world is quite a different place.
The power of the vote is an amazing thing and rural Americans proved that inevitability and the established path are the exact reasons we all need to be part of the political process. I could go on and on with an inspiring victory speech like Mr. Obama did last night but let’s just say this, a state that has fewer than 5%(?) African-Americans put their support behind an African-American for their Democratic nominee. Now that speaks volumes!! After all that has been going on in the country over the past 7 years, I woke up just a little prouder to be an American this morning.

I too - went to bed proudly with joy and woke up inspired. I was one of those African Americans who was on the fence of supporting Hilary Clinton or Barack Obama. My gut supported Obama - but being hungry for a Democrat that could polarize America - I waited to see who came out of Iowa with momentum and overwhelming support. Obama did it. YEAH!!!!!! Now l am supporting him fully and know now that effective change can happen again in my lifetime. First Kennedy, then Clinton, now - Obama.
Right on Paul! There was a huge turn out. I saw pretty dramatic distinctions of a youth surge and women that voted for Obama. I’m really psyched about this. Sen. Obama really was quite inspirational in his victory speech last night. I was clapping in my living room.
What happened last night was TRUELY INSPIRING…….I loved it!
